What Women Want: A Journey to Personal and Political PowerPatricia IrelandPlumePatricia Ireland's autobiography portrays a wonderful portrait her journey from being a stewardess for Pan Am to the presidency of NOW (the National Organization for Women). Most of the book is just as much a history of the modern feminist movement, and rightly so, Ireland has been a key part of that movement. Her thoughts about the movement's successes and mistakes make this an incredibly interesting and thought-provoking book. Ireland does mention, but does not dwell on, the fact that she is married and has a long-term female partner as well. While she is clearly a very private person, I have a great respect for her unwillingness to hide the fact of her relationships. |
